A key prestigious award granting institutions has raised concerns that scholarly independence is under threat in the US and elsewhere, with government intervention causing serious consequences – as scientists get ready for next week’s award announcements.

These prestigious awards, considered widely as the highest research honors in the world, are planned to be announced from next week, beginning with the prize in medicine and physiology on Monday and concluding with the presenting of winners in economic sciences the following week.
